Scientists explore use of forecast databases for weather research 15 April 2019 Scientists from across the world flocked to ECMWF from 2 to 5 April 2019 to discuss predictability, dynamics and applications research using ensemble forecast databases for the medium and sub-seasonal to seasonal range. The Centre is currently testing new forecast products for the sub-seasonal range.
European State of the Climate 2018 unveiled in Vienna 9 April 2019 The EU-funded Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) implemented by ECMWF presented the European State of the Climate 2018 report at a top geoscience meeting in Vienna on 9 April 2019. Upgrade to boost quality of ocean wave forecasts 1 March 2019 ECMWF’s high-quality ocean wave forecasts are set to improve further when the Integrated Forecasting System is upgraded later this year. Wave forecasts will benefit from a new physics package as well as improvements in variables that drive the forecasts.
Upgrade of ECMWF’s forecasting system planned for June 21 February 2019 ECMWF upgrades its forecasting system on a regular basis, and one such upgrade is currently planned for June 2019. Experts draw up roadmap for European multi-hazard service 28 January 2019 Thirty experts from across Europe came together at ECMWF from 21 to 23 January 2019 to draw up a roadmap for the creation of a European virtual operating centre for natural disasters. They met as part of the ARISTOTLE 2 project, in which ECMWF is involved as a subcontractor and data provider.

New ERA5 dataset provides weather and climate details back to 1979 17 January 2019 ECMWF’s new atmospheric reanalysis, ERA5, provides a detailed picture of the global weather and climate back to 1979 after the Copernicus Climate Change Service, implemented by ECMWF on behalf of the EU, released the latest tranche of ERA5 data.
