SEWA grants

Strengthening Early Warning in Africa (SEWA)

The first SEWA Call for Proposals will be launched in June/July 2026. The Call will focus on the co-design of regional pilots to demonstrate Impact-based Forecasting (IbF) systems and tools in support of early warning. The Call will have an overall  indicative budget of 5 Million Euro with the aim to award four grants.

In preparation for the first SEWA Regional Pilots Call for Proposals, ECMWF launched a Request for Expression of Interest (EoI) on 3 December 2025 with deadline for submission of the EoI on 5 February 2026, 14:00 CET.

The purpose of the Request for EoI was:

  • To engage potential applicants with an interest in participating in the forthcoming competitive SEWA Regional Pilots Call for Proposals;

  • To gain insights into the available expertise, competences and skills and – when needed – to facilitate networking among interested entities to strengthen collaboration and preparedness ahead of the SEWA Regional Pilots Call for Proposals.

All entities interested in the forthcoming SEWA Regional Pilots Call for Proposals were encouraged to respond to the Request for EoI. Entities – who submitted the EoI by the deadline – will be invited to participate in a SEWA Regional Pilots Call for Proposals Information and Networking Session planned in April 2026.

For detailed information on the Request for EoI, please see here:

The Request for EoI is now closed.
