Maliko Tanguy

Scientist
Forecast, Evaluation, Forecast Verification and Observation Monitoring

Summary:
Maliko has joined ECMWF in December 2023 as part of the forecast verification and observation monitoring team. Specialising in the verification of hydrological forecasting systems, she focuses on assessing their reliability and utility for decision-makers. Her work contributes to the development of trustworthy hydrological products that help decision-makers make well-informed choices during flood events, ultimately minimising potential harm to communities.
Professional interests:

Hydrological forecasts

Hydrological extremes (floods and droughts)

Droughts and floods early warning systems

Career background:

Maliko has a masters degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Technical University of Cartagena (Spain) and a PhD in Land Surface Modelling and Remote Sensing. Her PhD research focused on improving drought monitoring and early warning system through the use of remote sensing data.

Nov 2012 - Nov 2023: Spatial Data Analyst at the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) in Wallingford (UK). During her 11 years at CEH, Maliko has made substantial contributions to a variety of projects, with a focus on floods (e.g. the Flood Estimation Handbook), droughts (e.g. Historic Droughts, DrIVER, ENDOWS, IRIS), hydrological forecasting (e.g., IMPETUS, Hydrological Outlooks), and the impact of climate change (e.g., eFLaG, CS-N0W, CANARI). Maliko's work has involved collaboration with numerous external partners, academics, and stakeholders within the UK and internationally.
