Katie started her current role at ECMWF, as the ‘Scientific Officer for the Space for Early Warning in Africa (SEWA) project’, in July 2025. Her primary interest is impact-based forecasting and warning, in particular working with end-users to understand how weather and hazard data can most effectively be employed for real-time decision making.
Katie has worked at ECMWF since 2023, where she was previously focused on understanding user needs and requirements for climate services, as well as developing user-centred forecast evaluation techniques, as part of the I-CISK Horizon Europe Project. She also continues to undertake operational flood forecasting duties, providing guidance to the European Commission’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre.
Prior to joining ECMWF, Katie worked for 9 years at the UK Met Office, performing various roles including Defence Meteorologist embedded with the British Army, Hydrometeorologist in the Flood Forecasting Centre, and Product Manager for decision support tools.
Katie has a Level 5 Diploma in Meteorological Forecasting and Briefing (UK Met Office), a Master’s and a DPhil (PhD) in Earth Sciences (University of Oxford), and two years’ experience as a post-doctoral research assistant in palaeo-climatology at the University of Southampton.
