GRID

ECMWF is currently involved in two European Commission FP6 funded GRID computing projects to investigate and develop technologies for utilising computer, supercomputer and data storage capacity effectively across distant sites. The two main projects are the DEISA project and the SIMDAT project.

DEISA

DEISA is a consortium of leading national supercomputing centres that intends to deploy and operate a persistent, production quality, distributed supercomputing environment.

The purpose of this FP6 funded research infrastructure is to enable scientific discovery across a broad spectrum of science and technology by enhancing and reinforcing European capabilities in the area of high performance computing.

SIMDAT

SIMDAT is Data grids for process and product development using numerical simulation and knowledge discovery.

Collaboration between several product development teams using grid technology by federating product development environments.

SIMDAT is funded by the European Commission under the Information Society Technologies Programme(IST), contract number IST-2004-511438
