The ERA-40 data assimilation system uses the Integrated Forecasting System
(IFS) developed jointly by ECMWF and Météo-France. The option of three-dimensional
variational assimilation of observations is used, and the assimilating
model has T159 spectral resolution in the horizontal and 60 levels. Read
