2. HALO workshop 12. - 13. December 2005

The 2. HALO workshop has been held at ECMWF in Reading on 12. - 13. December 2005.

The first aim of the workshop was to review and finalise the document prepared by HALO in the past year specifying in detail the exchanges of data and information-products between the interacting parts of the GEMS, MERSEA, and GEOLAND Integrated Projects (IPs), and the Candidate Solutions for these exchanges. The document to be finalised in the workshop will be circulated two weeks before the workshop and will be the basis on which the HALO partners in the coming year will prepare Recommendations and an Implementation Plan for the transition to operations of the three Integrated Projects.

The second aim of the workshop is to identify the scope and content of a review (to be prepared by the HALO partners in 2006) of the likely scientific and technical upgrade paths of the interacting parts of the three IPs in the first few years after the transitions to operational status. Possible areas for consideration include:
(1) coordinated exploitation of new satellite missions for near-real-time monitoring of land cover, soil moisture, ocean salinity, and atmospheric transport
(2) interface modelling issues such as the dynamics of air-sea gas-exchanges, humidity and carbon dioxide fluxes over land, soil moisture changes, biomass burning, deposition of significant atmospheric constituents such as ozone and other pollutants on land vegetation and on the ocean.
(3) likely trends in the scope of the initial GMES services for users.

All information on the workshop, including a tentative agenda, a tentative list of participants, and information related to transportation and accomodation is available as pdf file.

If you plan to attend, please contact Johannes Kaiser <j.kaiser@ecmwf.int>.

1. HALO workshop 16. - 17. November 2004

The 1. HALO workshop was held at ECMWF in Reading on 16. - 17. November 2004.

The HALO workshop was a forum for all interested parties to discuss the 22.01.2007the issues of data acquisition, sharing and dissemination between the GMES Integrated Projects (IP).

Workshop participants

Presentations on GMES activities and data infrastructure issues were given at the first day of the workshop. The presentations of the workshop can be accessed by the following link:

Workshop presentations

The second workshop day was dedicated to working group discussion among the HALO Partners. The working groups were dedicated to the following topics:

  • Interacting parts of Ocean - Atmosphere IPs (WG1)
  • Interacting parts of Land - Atmosphere IPs (WG2)
  • Future GMES demands on Ocean, Land and Atmosphere IPs (WG3)
