Extreme forecast index

Two products on tropical storms are currently available: tropical storm frequency and mean location of tropical storm genesis. The 40-member ensemble forecast is compared with the climatology. A Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney (WMW) test is then applied to evaluate if the predicted tropical storm frequency/location are significantly different from the climatology. Green bars represent forecast orange bars represent climatology. The ocean basins where the WMW test detects a significance larger than 90% have a shaded background.

Note: this a sample plot produced in the past.
