Training course: Numerical Weather Prediction, 2012

2012 Training courses

Overview

The objective of the meteorological training course is to assist Member States in advanced training in the field of numerical weather forecasting.

The course is divided into modules as follows:

16 -20 April 2012 NM Numerical methods, adiabatic formulation of models and ocean wave forecasting (5 days)
23 April-2 May 2012 DA

Data assimilation and use of satellite data
(8 days)
9-18 May 2012 PR Predictability, diagnostics and extended-range forecasting
(8 days)
21-31 May 2012 PA

Parametrization of subgrid physical processes
(9 days)

Registrations

Applications should arrive at ECMWF at the latest by Friday, 20 January 2012.

Candidates will be notified within two weeks of the deadline whether their application has been accepted.

Requirements

Students attending the course should have a good meteorological and mathematical background, and are expected to be familiar with the contents of standard meteorological and mathematical textbooks. Some practical experience in numerical weather prediction is an advantage.

All lectures will be given in English.
