Following the recommendations made during the 11th workshop on Meteorological Operational Systems held at ECMWF in November 2007, ECMWF, the UK Met Office and Météo France are jointly organising a dedicated workshop on the use of GIS systems in meteorology.

The aim of this workshop is to review the use of OGC standards in geo-sciences in Europe and worldwide, to promote collaboration between meteorological services in order to define a set of common standards that will enhance interoperability.

The expected outcome of the workshop is a roadmap for the creation of common reference implementation of OGC compliant web services for meteorological data which could lead to a set of recommendations to WMO.

It is envisaged that the workshop will consist of a limited number of presentations from invited speakers, plus a series of 15 minutes contributions. There will be open discussion, working groups and plenary sessions.
