The ECMWF/NWP-SAF Workshop on Bias estimation and correction in data
assimilation will be held from 8 to 11 November 2005.
The handling of biases in data assimilation is a key element in the effective
use of current and future satellite observations. This requires the capability
to disentangle systematic errors inherent to the instruments, radiative
transfer and NWP models, and also demands a robust design to reduce their
adverse effects in data assimilation schemes. This proposed workshop will
also form part of the Centre's contribution to the NWP SAF activities.
The first 2.5 days will be used for presentations, while the remaining 1.5 days will be devoted to working group discussions. The working groups should come up with a series of recommendations or guidelines for future research. A report of the workshop will be published by ECMWF shortly after the meeting.
