ECMWF supports the World Meteorological Organisation's Severe Weather Forecasting Demonstration Project (SWFDP). The SWFDP strengthens the capacity of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in developing and least developed countries to deliver improved forecasts and warnings of severe weather to save lives, livelihoods and property.

The SWFDP is implemented as a number of Regional Projects, each using a “Cascading Forecasting Process” (global to regional, to national). ECMWF participates as a global NWP centre, providing graphical products for the domains of each regional project as required for early warnings of high impact and extreme weather events, e.g. ensemble probabilities and high-resolution forecasts for wind, precipitation and temperature, as well as tropical cyclone tracks.
